It is not simply the mental illness of Loughner which is responsible for the shootings in Arizona. There are millions of mental sick around the world and if they all would shoot politicans there would not be any.
As far as I know is the crime rate of the mental sick is not higher compared to that of the average population. Mental ill people are rather victims than perpetrators.
